Open Farm Sunday - 13 June 2010

On Sunday 13 June 2010, Blackberry farm Milton Damerel will be opening its gates to the public for Open Farm Sunday 2010.   The day offers visitors a great day out, and an opportunity to meet the farmers who grow their food and care for the countryside.

  • When: Sunday 13 June
  • Where: Blackberry Farm, Milton Damerel, Holsworthy, Devon EX22 7NP
  • Opening Time: From 10am Until 5pm

Lizzy and Mike from Blackberry farm are inviting everyone to come and see what happens beyond the farm gate. Lizzy said: “This is an ideal chance to meet and feed our friendly farm animals, learn about the Ruby Country and how and why we farm. You can follow our farm trail and try your hand at our alphabet quiz, who will be first to complete the scavenger hunt and grab a prize from the lucky dip? There will be face painting as well as arts and crafts with a farming theme and stalls to browse. We are also pleased to welcome Captain Coconut, the famous bubble man, who will wow you with his gigantic bubbles. This is a great way to have some fun whilst enjoying the peace and beauty of the countryside. Afterwards you can relax in our tearoom and enjoy a homemade pasty or a proper Devon cream tea. Make a day of it with family and friends, and have some fun down on the farm?  For those of you who love machinery, there will be tractors and tools on show too!”

Caroline Drummond, Chief Executive of LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), organiser of Open Farm Sunday said: “This is a day out with a real difference! Whatever you do at an Open Farm Sunday event on Sunday 13 June, it is a great chance to take in some stunning scenery and enjoy the country air.  You will really get to know how your food is produced and maybe even taste some, all whilst finding out how the countryside around you is cared for”.
This will be the fifth Open Farm Sunday and over 450 farms across the country are expected to open. For up-to-date campaign information and to let us know about your time on the farm, follow us on Twitter - twitter.com/openfarmsunday.
